About Inner Wheel

inner wheelInner Wheel is worldwide voluntary organisation active in 104 countries covering most languages, colours, creeds, and cultures. There are about 103,000 members worldwide. In New Zealand there are 50 clubs with 1500 members.

It was founded in 1924 by Margarette Golding, a nurse,dawn johnston koru award business-woman and the wife of a Manchester Rotarian. Its over riding goal was to unite wives and daughters of Rotarians and meeting three key objectives

– To promote true friendship

– To encourage the ideals of personal service

– To foster international understanding

dawn johnston koru awardMembers achieve these objectives through club events which combines personal service, fellowship, fundraising all united in friendship with the common aim of serving the local community.

Today any woman who shares these three objectives of Inner Wheel may become part of the organisation.

The Howick Inner Wheel Club was chartered in November 1991.  In 2018 it had 40 members who actively participate in furthering the key objectives of the parent organisation.dawn johnston koru award

The club has been actively involved in supporting Stand Children’s Health Camp, Kids First, Takanini Family Centre, Look Good – Feel Better and catering for many Rotary Club fundraising projects such as the Rotary Club of Pakuranga corporate fishing day fundraiser for Coastguard.

dawn johnston koru awardDawn was a foundation member of the Inner Wheel Club of Howick, serving twice as its President, in 1985 and again in the Club’s 25th Jubilee year in 2017.

In the spirit of the theme “Leave a Legacy” the Inner Wheel Club of Howick is proud to be associated with the Dawn Johnston Koru Award and in so doing recognises the contribution Dawn Johnston made to the Pakuranga, Howick and Botany communities.
